Graveside service for John Watson age 72, of rural Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Mr. Watson passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at his home.

John Thomas Watson was born September 19, 1951, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Thomas E. and Dorothy (Loftis) Watson. He attended Frederick Public Schools, graduating from Frederick High School. He later served in the United States Army. John worked for Coake and Quam Feed Lot and Walker Fertilizer in Frederick, prior to moving to Florida where he worked at the Taylor Ranch. After returning to Frederick, he was employed by Tillman County District #2, City of Frederick, Homer Lynn Ryan, as well as farmed and ranched in Tillman County. John headed for some of the best team ropers in the world; a few of which included Leo Camarillo, Gerald Camarillo, Garland Bloodworth, and Curt Akin. They won the Southwest Team Roper Association, three years in a row. He was a cardholder for the Professional Cowboys Rodeo Association in calf roping, team roping, and steer roping.

He is survived by one brother, Marlin Watson and his wife, Renee of Frederick, Oklahoma; one sister, Kay Cullum and her husband, Daryl of Missouri City, Texas; his nephews and niece, Jason Roberts, and his wife, Allison of Austin, Texas, Dustin Watson and his wife, Erika of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Darci Abernathy, and her husband, Kevin of Tipton, Oklahoma; and his great-niece, Ila Roberts; and great-nephews, Coen Roberts, Deacon Abernathy, Johnny Watson, and Tommy Watson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Watson; one brother, James Allen “Jim” Watson; and one sister, Cynthia Faye “Cindy” Watson.
