According to an article on History.com, the first recorded celebration honoring the Catholic feast day of St. Patrick was held March 17, 1601, in what is now St. Augustine, Florida. The article states that records show a St. Patrick’s Day parade was held under the direction of the colony’s Irish vicar, Ricardo Artur.
