Fess Up!

Alright folks, it’s time for me to get something off my chest.  And I can’t write or talk another word about things that go on around here, nor can I teach from His Word anymore until and unless I cowboy up and confess this to y’all.  I have an addiction.  This addiction has affected my life in ways that I’m sure many just won’t comprehend.  Now, I know, some of you are thinking, “I knew it, “That preacher man done went and got himself hooked on somethun.”  Yep, none of us are above it.  We’re all human.  And this addiction escalated to an even higher level about fifteen years ago.

I just can’t hide it, so I am not even going to try.  You might be amazed to know that I first got hooked back in the fall of 1970.  Yep, that was a long time ago!  A few folks found out about it back on November 15 of that year.  It has altered my whole thinking process.  It has affected my home, my marriage, my family, my relationships, my work, my down times, and my up times; you might say it has taken hold of my whole life.  It just seems to consume me like nothing I’ve ever encountered.  I am writing this letter to set the record straight:

Hello, my name is Wes aka Wesley Kinder and I’m addicted to Jesus Christ.  Yes, I’m hooked on Jesus!  There, I said it.  Jesus consumes me.  Now I feel so much better!  Oh, boy!  I just want all of y’all to know that Jesus is Lord!

I know I had some of you on the edge of your seat.  Trouble is, some of you are thinking: “Oh…, his addiction is only Jesus.”  Only Jesus died for us so that we may live.  Only Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.   You know, Jesus taught that the greatest commandments are:

First, is Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Second, is to Love your neighbor as yourself.

Isn’t that awesome?  If you give your all to Christ, this will happen.

But then why is it sometimes so difficult to tell others (neighbors) about how we love Jesus? After all, He only came from Heaven to earth to show the way, from the earth to the cross my debt to pay, from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky… Lord, why do we at times not want to lift Your name on high?

I mean, some of my neighbors don’t really like me. I think they would just as soon see me as their enemy. And it makes it hard for me to find love for them no matter that they are trying to bring harm to me.

Jesus says in Matthew 5:44: "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,"   Pray, just pray for your neighbor who would rather hate you.

The real problem just might be that it’s because we fail to first love Him.  We put other “stuff” ahead of Him. It may be good stuff, but stuff is stuff, and if that stuff gets ahead of God, then it becomes bad stuff.  It may be that it’s high time we rearrange our priorities!  If we keep our mouth shut about Jesus then there just may be someone who never gets the opportunity to know Jesus and His Love!

God is love! And He is before all things.

Paul writes in Colossians 1:17-18: “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.  He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.”   (NASB)

I’ll tell y’all what; I think Paul was addicted to Jesus, too!

Choose Jesus, choose life and let your light shine! And find a Bible believin’ church where you “fit in” and know, grow, and follow Christ! Tell others!  See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! Pray for the rain!  Amen!
