Funeral for Koleeta Jim “Ko” (Hopps) Green, of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of Frederick, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Rev. Josh Boles, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

She was born and raised on a farm in Frederick, Oklahoma to the proud parents, Alma and Halley Hopps. She was truly a farmer’s daughter.

While attending The University of Oklahoma (OU) Koleeta met the love of her life, John William Green.

They were happily married almost 70 years. They moved to Dallas, Tx for John’s Proctor & Gamble job where they raised their three children: Jan Catherine, John Barton and Paula Deanne; they have six precious grandchildren: Leesa, Rachel, Jordan, Haley, Ryan & Coleman; and nine adorable great-grandchildren: Moses, Josiah, Rosemary, Ember, Capri, Jack, Wyatt, Owen and Elijah with 2 on the way.

Koleeta trusted Jesus Christ as her savior in her late thirties. She passionately loved the Lord with all her heart. Ko soon became known as a “prayer warrior” by her friends and family. When stranded in Aruba while on a cruise they were told they had a big problem & would have to fly back to Texas.

Koleeta immediately went off to pray. As she returned the port operator was finishing his call with the ship’s captain. He yelled, “Jesus Christ!

They’re coming back for you!” Ko said, “It’s because of Jesus Christ that they’re coming!”

One of Koleeta’s passions was people. She made friends everywhere she went. They were drawn to her humble, down to earth, fun, animated, friendly, compassionate personality. Koleeta surely captured the hearts of her children and grandchildren.

Ko loved plants and could nurture a scrawny little ol’ plant & turn it into a flourishing plant or tree. She & John’s home was surrounded by many beautiful plants and flowers creating a sanctuary.

Another passion of Koleeta’s was running. Running was her intimate time with Jesus as she prayed & ran with Buckwheat following her.

Ko ran everywhere. She ran during she & John’s many travels. John fondly remembers her running on The Great Wall of China. In Ko’s last moments on this earth she ran to Jesus.

It seems Koleeta’s challenges or obstacles in life began with her brain aneurysm at the age of 49. She had less than a 5% chance of surviving. After a tedious 9 hour brain surgery, she spent months rehabilitating from paralysis, mental & physical deficits. It took time, God, therapy & sheer willpower to recover. She was determined to run again. And boy did she run! She ran in the neighborhood & Aerobic Center where she earned the “Come Back of the Year” award. Ko participated in races & later won medals in the Senior Olympics. During every obstacle Koleeta faced she wasn’t afraid. She was at peace knowing God was in control. Mom was the bravest woman we know. In October 2016 after her serious fall to the back of her head when she was 83 the doctors did not expect her to survive. The subdural hematoma caused traumatic brain injury & a host of other problems. After multiple rehabilitations she started walking & talking.

Then less than a year later she had that same fall again & the doctor performed a Craniectomy which caused her to never walk again along with many hardships. That dr never covered it as he assumed she would not survive. She proved him wrong and lived another 6 years. She lived a happy, content life with John & family including Ty by her side.

Koleeta will always be admired for her faith, courage, love, compassion, encouragement & grace. She profoundly influenced all those who loved her. Ko accepted pain and hardships calmly and without complaint. She was a true overcomer.

She will always be a part of us.
