Tillman County 4-H Banquet Held

The annual Tillman County 4-H Banquet was held at Great Plains Technology Center on Tuesday August19, 2010. 4-H members from across the county were honored for their 2009-2010 project work and other achievements. Jordan Gaither, County President from Davidson, served as MC for the evening. Special awards were given to the following 4-H members: Senior Citizenship Award sponsored by the Tillman County Bar Association and presented by Brad Benson to Shannon Van der Laan, Frederick; Junior Citizenship Award, Jarret Tyra, Frederick; Horse Award, Kaisen Walker, Frederick; Ag Preference of Altus presented awards to Liza Van der Laan, Frederick for Dairy; Caitlyn Spoonmore, Chattanooga for Goats; and Jarret Tyra, for Swine; Ag Preference also awarded Porsha Rodriguez of Frederick the Outstanding First Year Member Award. Tillman County Farm Bureau recognized Kaisen Walker and Dennis Van der Laan, both of Frederick, as Outstanding Junior 4-H members. American Farmers and Ranchers awarded Jordan Gaither and Matthew Inscore both of Davidson as Outstanding Senior members. Hall of Fame, which is awarded to a high school junior or senior 4-H member, was also awarded to Jordan Gaither and Dillon Defoor. A junior and senior leadership award was given in memory of JimmyMeeks jr. to Mackenzie Thornton of Grandfield and Wilma Van der Laan of Frederick. Other awards that were won earlier in the year were presented. Meat ID winners were: juniors, Samantha Cowan, Jarret Tyra second; and Logan Coleman, third. Dress Revue winner was Kaisen Walker and Kaisen also won the Shawnee mills Award for a demonstration using wheat flour. Jacob Waugh won a special award from the Peanut Commission for a demonstration using peanuts or peanut products. A variety of project medals were earned and awarded to 44 4-H members from across the county. Shannon Van der Laan was also recognized for her efforts in successfully completing a State 4-H record book and being selected in the top 3 from across the state in the Dairy project. The final announcement of the evening was the results of the county officer elections. New officers for the 2010 and 2011 year are: Jordan Gaither, president; Leanne Van der Laan, vice-president; Jarret Tyra, secretary; Dillon Defoor, reporter; Mattison Clemmer, recreation leader; and Amber Colyer, music coordinator.
