Story By Max Clayton

The Frederick Bombers had a very important district game Friday night against the Washington Warriors. The Warriors came to Bomber Bowl to face

the favored Frederick team. The Bombers needed this win to stay

undefeated in district. It just wasn't to be, however, as the Bombers

lost a very close one by the score of 20-19. The Bombers were very much in the game right up until the very end. It was so close. The game started out with Washington taking control. Before the halftime break the Bombers were down 6-0 and the Warriors were driving for another score.

With 7 minutes left in the half the Warriors had a first and goal and a score would put them up 14-0. The Bomber's character then came into play.

They held the ball out of the end zone for three downs and senior

linebacker Austin White showed his defensive dominance by sacking the quarterback on 4th down. The Bombers took over and had a first down on their own 13 yard line. The first play was a big one as Stephen Nelms broke in the clear and ran for 87 yards and the Bombers first touchdown.

The extra point try was no good but the game was tied at 6-6. That was the score at the break. The teams traded scores in the final half to keep the game tight. The next score for the Bombers was a 19 yard keeper by

Trevor Flores. This time the kick by Francisco Barajas was good and the Bombers led for the first time that evening. The 4th quarter would tell the tale. Washington scored in that period but the difference in the gam was a critical 2-point conversion for the visitors. They had two tries at it as pass interference was called against the Bombers. The second tr was good and even though the Bombers scored again on a 29 yard scamper by

Nelms, the extra point try was no good and the Bombers trailed by one.

That is the way the game ended. The Bombers lost a very close one 20-19.

The Bombers put up 12 first downs, 376 yards of offense, completed 8 of 15 passes with no picks, punted 4 times, turned the ball over twice by way of the fumble, and were penalized 4 times for 25 yards. Washington had 13

first downs, 337 yards of offense, completed 11 of 29 passes with 2

interceptions, puntted 3 times, had no fumbles, and were flagged 3 times for 22 yards. The stats pretty much tell the tale. The Bombers won the war on paper but not on the scoreboard. Frederick had chances to put the

game away but it just wasn't to be. They fall to 5-1 (2-1) for the

season. This might change the playoff picture somewhat but it all depends on how the Bombers play at Lindsay and Bridge Creek the next two weekends.

The Lindsay game is next Thursday. Bridge Creek is the Friday night

after that. These two away games are what the Bomber season is all about.

See you there!
