Two Frederick FFA members recently won state dairy proficiency awards, which they were awarded at the 86th Oklahoma FFA Convention in early May.

Wilma Van der Laan competed for the Oklahoma FFA Dairy Production Entrepreneurship State Proficiency Award, winning first place.

This award recognizes and honors students actively involved in a supervised agricultural experience related to using the best management practices available to produce/market dairy cattle and products efficiently. Liza Van der Laan competed for the Oklahoma FFA Dairy Production Placement Proficiency Award, winning first place.

She has lived on her family’s dairy farm her entire life and gained hands-on experience in learning about the dairy industry. The Frederick FFA member has gained a more in depth understanding by starting a dairy herd that has taught her about the responsibility of managing a dairy cattle operation.

This proficiency award is designed to recognize students involved in a supervised agricultural experience related to dairy production.

Wilma Van der Laan and Liza Van der Laan are the daughters of Pieter and Anita Van der Laan.

Bill Blankenship is the Frederick FFA Advisor.
