The Frederick basketball hosted Apache in their first home game of the New Year. This is an intense rivalry and Frederick hasn’t won many in the recent past. The Lady Bombers played well but came up on the short end of a 62-34 score. The Bombers didn’t have any trouble handling the Apache Warriors. They led almost from wire to wire and annihilated the Warriors by the score of 72-34. A 40-point win will be long remembered in this town.

Coach Stehr played very one of the Lady Bombers this night. The team roster includes Jenna Hamm, Amber Wasinger, Abbye Reid, Keianna Mayfield, Jessica Gaytan, Harli Brunson, Tarian Finley, Shaneiqua Hernandez, Tianna Billy, Sasha Mitchell, Jasmine Jones, Jessalynn Lara, Angelica Henson, Karlyn Mitchell and Megan Jones. The leading scorer for Frederick was Sasha Mitchell with 10 points, mostly in the 4th quarter. She came off the bench and proved without a doubt that she deserves even more playing time. Abbye Reid and Jessica Gaytan added 8 and 5 points respectively to the Lady Bomber cause. Megan Jones scored 3 points, also from off the bench. Jenna Hamm, Amber Wasinger, Harli Brunson and Jessalynn Lara each put in 2 points. Harli Brunson was credited with 5 assists. Jessica Gaytan and Harli Brunson led Frederick with 7 rebounds apiece. The Lady Bombers lost by the score of 62-34.

The Bombers confused the Warriors from the opening tip off. They used speed and quickness to outrun the competition. The Warriors seemed to be surprised by how good the Bombers played. Couple this with excellent ball-handling and shot-making and the Bombers won big at 72-34. All of the Coach Converse’s Bombers got to play. The roster players are Gabriel Pesina, Charlie Bryant, Stephen Nelms, Jacob Bennight, Matthew Huff, Blake Burleson, Brant Ledford, Andrew Dill, Zack Rodriguez, Scott Nelms, Steven Stipkovich, Myles Billy, Jackie Lee, Connor Franklin, Dylan Adams and Adrian Wright. The Bombers won because they worked hard and won because the bench players played as well as the starting five. High scorer was Charlie Bryant. Charlie scored 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Stephen Nelms was close behind with 14 points scored. Myles Billy came off the bench to score 10, most of those in the 1st half. Matthew Huff added 8 important points. Jacob Bennight also contributed 8 points. Jacob was credited for 6 rebounds and 6 assists as well. Adrian Wright played very hard and scored 4 4th period points to help the Bomber cause. Blake Burleson didn’t score but worked very hard on defense with 8 rebounds. The other scorers were Gabriel Pesina (4), Jackie Lee (4), Zack Rodriguez (2) and Scott Nelms (1). The Bombers should gain confidence with this win. This game proves that they can and do know how to win. The Bombers will have several home stands this month. Now is your chance to get out and show the young athletes that we do care about them.

GO LADY BOMBERS! GO BOMBERS!
