School board holds meeting discusses prom and school bond election

Frederick School Board Holds Special Meeting this past Friday, the board voted to approve school resource officer for the 2011-2012 school year. The board also approved the revised budget for 2010-2011 and the revised budget for 2011-2012. Early release dates approved for the 2011-2012 school year. In further businesses the board discussed the issues with prom being moved to Lawton, High School Principal Randy Biggs stated that it was an option to be moved and was not set in stone the previous board meeting held the prom was approved to set a date if. He also showed the board a slide show presentation of the facilities at Cameron he had also taken the Senior and Junior class officers to Cameron for their viewing, along with given details of travel to and from Lawton. Biggs stated his tentative plan was to let the kids show their attire at the Pioneer Town Site with family members present, then charter a bus or limo from there. The board moved to decide on this issue at a later date. Superintendent Tony O'brien then moved to discuss the upcoming bond election which will be held September 13th, O'brien stated that there will be no new taxes or rate increases, the bond calls to extend out the current tax rate for 14 years which is currently at 26.45% with a total cost of projects totalling $6,818,825. Listed are items of interested that need to be addressed with the bond. The condition of the Prather Brown Cafeteria: Prather Brown Center has a flat tar roof, that has been repaired numerous times. The tar cracks in the heat, then leaks are not known until it rains. This results in classroom teachers scrambling for buckets to catch the rain that is pouring into their classrooms.....all the while they are having class. Demolition of the old Central Grade Building, including the auditorium and Middle School Gym. Also all of the 40 year old temporary buildings (The annex at PBC, Central Grade Gym, and Middle School Music Building) will be torn down. These buildings are infested with termites. A new gym will be built to accommodate both Prather Brown Center and Middle School. A new music building with classrooms for both band and choir will be built. The new music building will also double as an above ground storm shelter for the community to use. Superintendent O'brien will make Bond Presentations beginning August 21st. which was held with the ETA Gama and Friends, the following are to be held on August 25th, during Lions Club; September 1, at 5pm PEO Club at BancFirst Conference Center; September 6th at 6pm. Bond Presentation Open House; September 12th, 12noon Rotary Club; September 12th 6pm they will hold a bond phone bank. Everyone is invited to attend the meetings. September 13, please remember to vote.

The board then met in executive sessions approving new hires and accepted Brad Pattersons, Twyla Kelly’s resignation. The board also accepted employment of T e m p o r a r y Elementary Teacher Angelyn Bernanrd, Temporary Elementary Teacher’s Assistant Carol Lewis, and Temporary Elementary Teachers Assistant Jennifer Moore.
