The Frederick Middle and Frederick High Schools’ cheerleading squads attended cheer camp last week. New for the 2018/19 school year is JB the high school cheer mascot, portrayed by Savannah Peevyhouse.
“The upcoming year is going to be fun,” Cheer Coach Courtney Tyler said. “This is a hard working group of girls that are going to shine and adding our Mascot JB Bomber is going to add to the Bomber spirit. We plan on continuing the Bomber Cheer traditions that have been established. Can’t wait!”
Both teams were successful at camp. The high school squad and the mascot won superior trophies to take home.
“I have to say I’m so proud of these girls,” Tyler said. “We had one of our girls out with sickness and one out with injury and we sure missed them but these girls had to re-group and try all new spots, positions, stunt groups and these girls handled it so well.
“They worked as a team, figured it all out, and they made it through,” she continued. I can’t wait to get all our girls back and healthy to kick off our season. It’s going to be fun.”
Harley Akin and Angel Anderson made All-American Cheerleader and Peevyhouse made All-American Mascot. Several girls on both teams won spirit sticks and Kendyll Ellis also one the pin it to win it award.
The middle school squad won Top Team Chant, Top Team Band Chant and the Camp spirit award, which is voted on by all the squads. The team also won a bid for Nationals.
“This group of girls worked so hard,” Tyler said. Anything these girls put their minds to they will accomplish. They learned lots at camp and cannot wait for them to show it. They sure represented Frederick Middle School well. I cannot wait for this upcoming year with this group of girls.
“All in all, I gained 25 daughters between both squads.”
