It is almost time for a new school year, and with that, comes the fall sports season. This year, the Frederick High School cheerleading squad will have a new coach. Courtney Tyler began coaching cheer at Frederick Middle School last year, and this year she will be coaching both squads. She has been coaching cheer for over 10 years.
“I was a cheerleader all through school and that’s where I learned to love it,” Tyler said. “Then being a cheer coach for 10 years and going to camps, completing coaches’ trainings and certifications at those camps have taught me a lot more about Cheer.”
While Tyler isn’t from Frederick originally, she said she was excited to move here with her husband, who is a Frederick High School graduate.
“I’m actually from Lubbock, Texas,” Tyler said. “My husband’s hometown is Frederick, and when he had the chance to come back home to coach in his hometown he took it. He was very excited so that made me excited. We are very happy we are here. The community welcomed us in, loved my kids, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
The high school squad is gearing up to compete in the Gameday Competition again this year.
“The girls are very excited about it,” Tyler said. “We will begin practicing for this the first of August. Our Gameday Competition is November 3rd in Moore.”
JB Bomber is a new addition to the high school squad this year.
“We are very excited about our new addition, JB Bomber Mascot,” Tyler said. “We believed adding this addition would be great for our community, school spirit and to help add to our competitions.”
Savannah Peevyhouse will be in JB Bomber’s uniform this year.
“My expectations and hopes for the upcoming school year is for the girls to have fun, work hard and enjoy every moment,” Tyler said. “This group of girls is full of hard workers and to know we have a competition to get ready for, pep rallies, games, etc., they are ready to hit it hard. We want to excel in all those things so we will have to work hard and continue on.”
The first day of school is scheduled for Aug. 16.
