Bombers put away the over-matched Blue Devils.

The Frederick Bombers played host to the Cordell Blue Devils this past Friday. The Blue Devils had a 2-4 record coming into the game with wins over fellow District foes Sayre and Hinton.

The Blue Devils received the ball to start the game and quickly moved the ball across the 50 into Bomber territory. On the Bombers first possession from the Blue Devil 32 yard line, Quarterback Gustavo Gaytan pitched to the right side to Running back Diego Reyes, who pitched to WR JJ Tittle, who pitched to Gaytan, who then threw a strike to WR Zac Mathews. Freshman kicker Marco Clemente made the PAT to put the Bombers up 7-0. Two possessions later following a long run by Gaytan, FB Malachi Newton followed his blockers around the right side and into the endzone for his first touch down of the night. Clemente’s PAT failed. The Blue Devils weren’t out done, as they hit a 35-yard pass into the endzone right before the half.

Halftime score stayed at 13-6 with the Bombers leading. The Bombers came out after the half and played some inspired football. Newton started them off with a 40-yard sprint through the middle of the line for his second touch down of the night. Clemente’s PAT was good giving the Bombers a 20-6 lead.

On the following possession Newton shot up the middle again for 47 yards down to the Blue Devil 10-yard line where RB Kemontra Wright carried it into the endzone over the right side of the line. Clemente’s kick was good giving the Bombers a 27-6 lead. RB Kyle Edwards got his carry behind the right side of the line as he scored. Clemente’s kick was good giving the Bombers a 34-6 lead.

A Short time later Edwards carried in his second TD of the night, and Clemente’s PAT was good giving the Bombers a 41-6 lead.

The final score of the night came from the defense. as senior DE Ryder Ramirez scooped and scored on a QB miss-cue. Clemente’s PAT sailed wide let and the final score was Frederick Bombers 47 and Blue Devils 6.

The District A-2 standings are as follows:

Frederick with a 4-0 District record, having fared 166 points and allowed 50;

Hobart is also 4-0 in District play have points fared 178 and points allowed 75;

Merritt with a 3-1 record (they have yet to play Mangum or Hobart), and

Mangum with a 2-2 record.

Cordell has yet to play Hobart or Mangum and more than likely will miss the long trip to Hooker as the winner fourth place in District. Sayre with 1 win and Hinton and Hollis with win-less records playing Frederick the next two weeks, will lead up to possibly the best game of the season as Frederick will host that H school from the north for the District title.

We hope the Bomber faithful travel out to the western plains of Oklahoma as the Bombers travel to take on a hapless Hollis Tigers team. Hopefully the Bombers will take some time during this fall break shortened week to heal and get better.
