The Frederick Bombers Robotics team is heading to State for the fifth year in a row. The team doesn’t have an official uniform like a sports team, but this year, the team is hoping to get enough military flight suits to wear for the State competition.
Robotics Coach Tom Hensley said the qualifier in Newcastle was a tough competition with “big” schools.
“There were 18 teams in total, but we weren’t worried,” Hensley said. “Both teams (7506 and 8866) went and competed against each other but it really wasn’t a big deal because we had already qualified both teams for the state tournament in February. Side note, we were not eligible to win the Inspire award because we had already qualified for the State Tournament, but we did take second and third!”
The results from the qualifier are as follows:
Inspire Award (top award for the tournament):
PTC Design award:
Rockwell Collins Innovate award:
“Team 8866 finished second overall in the match scoring,” Hensley said. “They went undefeated in qualification matches and lost in the semi-finals. Now we have two months to get ready for the State tournament! We appreciate all of your help and support along the way. None of this would be possible without YOU!”
The State competition is scheduled for Feb. 22 and 23 in the gym at Southwest Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
