
The eight students named district winners who will participate in the Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs State Festival Competition on Saturday, April 27, at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma are: Abby Espinosa, Jenna Ripley, Samantha Cowan, William Guill, Tyler Wood, Azlee Allen, Makenna Hill and Raegan Hill.
Thirteen music students of Frederick music teacher Marcy Prescott participated in the Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs District VIII Gold Cup Festival at Cameron University on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
Those competing in piano solo and their ratings were: Joseph Richardson, excellent; Kade Hicks, excellent plus; Makenna Hill, superior minus; and, Tyler Wood, excellent. Competing in the Lynn Freeman Olson piano solo event were: Kellan Hicks who received a superior and honorable mention and William Guill who received a superior plus and was named the district winner in the category.
Participating in the piano solo hymn playing event were Raegan Hill, Makenna Hill and Azlee Allen. All three girls received superior ratings and all three were named district winners. Entering the piano duet event were: Azlee Allen and Makenna Hill, excellent plus; Kade Hicks and Wyatt Rodriguez, superior; and, Tyler Wood and William Guill who received a superior and were named the district winners in pre-primary piano duet.
In the vocal art song solo event, Abby Espinosa earned a superior plus and was named the district winner in elementary class II. Also participating in art song were: Blakely Akin, superior minus and first alternate; Jenna Ripley, excellent; and, Samantha Cowan, excellent.
Those competing in musical theater vocal solo were: Abby Espinosa, superior and first alternate; Blakely Akin, superior and second alternate; Jenna Ripley, superior; and, Samantha Cowan, superior and second alternate. Samantha Cowan and Jenna Ripley also sang in the musical theater vocal duet event where they received a superior plus and were named the district winners.
Ten students were selected to participate in Honors Recitals held the following week in Lawton. On Tuesday, February 26, Azlee Allen played Easter Hymn in the first Honors Recital held at Cameron University. Nine other students participated in the second Honors Recital which was held on Thursday, February 28, at the McMahon Foundation in Lawton. Those students and the pieces they performed were: Kellan Hicks, On Two Wheels; Raegan Hill, Jesus Loves Me; Makenna Hill, O Worship the King; William Guill, When Daytime Ends; William Guill and Tyler Wood, Piggyback Waltz; Blakely Akin, The Generous Fiddler and I’m Late; Abby Espinosa, Spinning Song and The Girl I Mean to Be; Samantha Cowan, Show Me; and, Samantha Cowan and Jenna Ripley, Stepsisters Lament.
