Two Frederick Bombers took their game to the next level at regionals, recently hosted at Weatherford. Bombers Grant Hoover and Tanner Oxford will see another tournament in the near future to complete their high school careers, but let’s discuss their performances at regionals.             At Weatherford each player played two rounds of eighteen holes, earning scores for thirty-six holes. On the first round Grant Hoover earned a score of 82 and Tanner Oxford earned a score of 78. The results were pretty close to the same in the second round – Hoover earned a score of 79 and Oxford earned a score of 83. The duo earned identical individual scores, each possessing a final score of 161.             “It’s harder for individuals to get into the state golf tournament. They only take the top six scores and an estimated sixty golfers competed for those spots. There was a four way tie with golfers earning scores of one hundred and sixty-one, which two of those golfers were Grant Hoover and Tanner Oxford. I thought Grant Hoover played great at regionals. Tanner Oxford played good enough for going to state, but I know that Oxford has a better game he can play than the performance he had at regionals. He’s a really good golfer and has also been playing an improved game with some tips from local golf pro Chris Cole,” stated head coach Sam Staats, discussing the initiatives of the two varsity golfers.                Grant Hoover and Tanner Oxford scored well enough to qualify as competitors at the state golf tournament hosted at Emerald Falls Golf Course in Broken Arrow during May 6 through May 7. This course is most likely one of the more difficult ones throughout the state. The layouts of the course fairways are very long, so it’s imperative to hit long drives from the tee box. The drives also need some accuracy when it comes to how straight a drive is hit due to various hazards. While this may be a hindrance on other teams, it is also an asset to Frederick. It will be an advantage because Grant Hoover and Tanner Oxford are good golfers and have the capacity to successfully maneuver through the course. This will be Grant Hoover’s second year to participate in the state golf tournament and this will be Tanner Oxford’s fourth year to participate in the state golf tournament.
