For the first time since 2002, a Tipton senior has been awarded the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship. Only 1,000 students, worldwide, receive this scholarship each year, and Kennedy Gilbert is the recipient of this great honor.
Applicants for this scholarship have to be from an ethnic minority. Kennedy is Cherokee Indian. They also must complete a lengthy application process, have a high GPA, and come highly recommended.
Kennedy says she is more than honored. She also says, “Receiving this scholarship was a dream come true, and such a blessing. It was reassurance that I will be able to pursue my dream of becoming a dentist.”
Kennedy was required to write ten 1,000-word essays as part of the application process for this scholarship. A few of her essay topics included her leadership activities, community service and personal experiences.
The Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship will enable Kennedy to go to any college or university of her choice through her master and doctorate levels 100%expense free. The scholarship pays for not only her tuition, but also her housing, food, transportation, books and supplies, and even pays for her personal expenses.
Kennedy is also Tipton High School’s 2013 Valedictorian.
