World War II veteran Bill Dill was honored at last week’s Frederick High School Commencement with his high school diploma, some 68 years after he left school.

Dill quit high school in 1944 to join the Marines. During this year’s FHS Graduation ceremony, Dill was surprised with his diploma. One of the Frederick Bombers biggest supporters, the football team wanted him to sit with their parents at graduation. He was unaware her would join them as a Frederick High School graduate.

Bill Dill was born and raised in Frederick. He returned to his hometown after his Marine Corps service and started a family. He forgot about his diploma until last week.

Dill, who turns 86 in July, said he is looking ahead to his 10 year class reunion in 2023.
