Frederick hosted its second annual Frederick Festival o get ready for the upcoming softball season.

Miles Smith, head coach of the Lady Bombers, gave recognition to sponsors Marshall Treesaw and Cheryl Hill of Broken Arrow.

“We appreciated the efforts of our sponsors and their interest in our program. Mrs. Hill took interest in our program and became a sponsor. It was really nice of all our sponsors who have an interest in the Lady Bombers program.”

Jade Hernandez pitched two of the three games in junior varsity action, leading Frederick in a demanding manner that helped insure victory.

“She finished really well, which our theme this year is to finish well,” commented the head coach.

There was some great defense that backed up Hernandez. Coach Smith explained that some of the critical plays made in this game were earned by Taryn Stacey in centerfield, Savannah Chavez at third base and Ashlee Fryer at second base.

The coach gave credit to the junior varsity team for their hard work.

Frederick’s junior varsity went 3-0, defeating rivals Snyder 4-2, Indiahoma 7-4 and Fletcher 6-5.

The varsity led off in the festival against Hobart on Thursday, August 23.

Emily Wasinger threw nine strikeouts and gave up only two hits. Cordelle Elsener did a good job behind the plate, making an important throw out on a base runner in this game. Coach Smith said “They both work well together.” Shelby Duggins recovered two hits in the dirt at first base. Starla Hicks also made some important defensive plays at third base, as explained by the coach. Emily Howard and Ashlyn Brite also saw some playing time, contributing to the efforts of Frederick.

The game was tied in the fourth inning and a hit to right field by Ashlyn Brite gained the Lady Bombers a leading score.

Frederick won 6-2.

Next up for Frederick was Mangum.

Emily Wasinger pitched, throwing nine strikeouts. Frederick was also error free in this game.

At the plate there were several doubles earned on hits by Lady Bombers Cordelle Elsener and Starla Hicks. Savanha Smith was moved up to the number two hole and Emily Wasinger went to the number five hole in the lineup at the plate. Smith is a good power batter and Wasinger is on the cleanup crew at the plate. But as the head coach said “It works out well for Emily because she is focused on pitching. It lets her relax at the plate and not be under pressure to make things happen.”

Frederick soared past Mangum 5-0.

Hobart and Mangum are two of Frederick’s healthiest rivals and victories by the Lady Bombers reflect on a determination to succeed.

Frederick finished the tournament playing another strong rival, Duncan.

Emily Wasinger pitched and threw ten strikeouts, only allowing one walk and giving up three hits. One of her three hits allowed was a solo homerun, but it didn’t deter Wasinger and she followed through with a strong defensive game.

Mikeala Bray and Savanha Smith played good offensive games. Smith earned a triple that drove in three Lady Bomber runs and a double hit by teammate Cordelle Elsener earned another Lady Bomber run. Starla Hicks earned a run batted in on a fly ball hit to right field. Emily Wasinger earned a base hit and teammate Ashlyn Brite garnered two base hits.

Coach Smith felt that Frederick could have played a stronger defensive game.

Frederick shot down Duncan 5-3.

The Lady Bombers swept the Frederick Festival 3-0.
