The Frederick Bombers junior varsity took their game on the road in early September to play a friendly game against Bray-Doyle’s varsity team, the Donkeys.

Frederick took an early 22-6 lead, but the Donkeys kicked up some dirt to stay in the game and narrowed the deficit with Frederick leading by two points in a 22-20 ballgame. “Our kids went down and scored to seal the game at the end,” shared Hugh Farmer, head coach of the junior varsity.

Giving credit to the team, the coach stated “They played hard against another team’s varsity, and some of our kids that don’t get much playing time on Friday nights did a good job. It’s important for kids to get playing time. I wish we could get more junior varsity games around here. It’s tough to find them and no one wants to play them, especially people at our level. We try to get the kids as much playing time as they can get in a season because they put in a lot of hard work during the week and deserve it.”

Frederick mixed it up, playing a combination of a running and passing game. Garrett Brite played at quarterback and made a game winning pass to Joseph Hernandez that sealed Frederick’s victory. “It was pretty impressive. I think it was about a thirty-five yard pass,” commented Farmer.

The coach gave credit to Frederick’s defense and offense. “We scored a defensive touchdown and also at the end we stopped them. Garrett Brite got an interception right at the end of the game and we took a knee to finish the game, then came home,” Farmer shared. The Frederick Bombers junior varsity put the Bray-Doyle Donkeys in a tailspin and defeated their opponent 28-20.
