Police Chief Rob Stallcup from the Chattanooga Police Department was involved in an accident Saturday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The police chief was hit head-on when a driver swerved into his lane. The chief was taken to a hospital in Lawton where he was treated and released.

The driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence.

Both lanes of Okla. 36 were shut down for a short time.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention website has a list of preventative measures against drunk driving that include:

* Designate a non-drinking driver before any party or celebration begins. Remind others to do the same.

* Don’t drink and drive. Get a ride home or call a taxi.

* Take the keys. Don’t let someone else drink and drive.

* Remind guests to plan ahead and designate their sober driver, offer alcohol-free beverages and make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.

*Buckle up every time. It’s the best defense against a drunk driver.

Take a few minutes to make sure to avoid impaired driving and for more information visit cdc.gov.
